Act 4 Scene 2 of Macbeth displays the struggle between two wedded whom face the difficulty of one leaving their family. Macduff flees to England because he is worried that Macbeth is going to kill him next. He suspects that Macbeth is responsible for the murder of King Duncan so without hesitation he leaves everything behind, including his wife and son. Lady Macduff has a conversation with her son about the situation. Lady Macduff tries to persuade her son that his father is a traitor to the family. Nonetheless, the bright child does not side with his mother but believes he can get a new father. She assumes that her son is too young to understand why Macduff has chosen to leave his family. The article provided speaks about how unhappy marriages lead to an unhappy home for a child. In most cases, the parents believe their child does not understand what may be going on. However, that is not the case. The article states that “...children may be too young to know what is wrong, but they will sense all is not well” (Pina 1). While the parents try to hide the constant arguments, the child will eventually notice the difference between the two. Whether it be body language, intense conversations, or lack of family activities, a child will sense something wrong. Divorce is not uncommon in modern day families, and the reasons for divorce are not particularly different in most cases. Although Macduff and Lady Macduff do not file for a divorce, the man eventually leaves their family. Separation between parents can cause negative effects on a child. Fatherless or motherless families are not uncommon today.
